Mandlers

Teleoperators
often wear over 30 lbs of gear
especially when Haptics are  introduced into the "subject's nervous system

Haptics

Our research in haptics  has focused on the development of new algorithms and control structures to allow the quick and robust tactile interface of human touch which is being tested for wide range of  reasons including helping Autistics respond to the sense of being held and or touched in a safe virtual context . By investigating the ways humans perceive their environment through the sense of touch, we have also defined new control strategies for both the entertainment and computer gaing industry . The developments of these new technologies have the potential for enormous benefits in many areas of human activity

Haptic Teleoperation

A tele-manipulation system provides tele-presence by allowing a user to remotely control and mentor a subject through a master device. The challenge of haptic rendering and teleoperation is to synthesize a realistic mechanical sensation through feedback control while achieving other satisfactory feedback properties including ocular over lay, noise attenuation, taste and smell .
