The impact of photographic style on trust and interest in social media accounts
Specifically, we assessed participants' trust in a Reddit account's post featuring a series of photographs depicting attractive young men, which were displayed alongside a critique of a youth hostel's advertised amenities. Additionally, we presented a set of reviews of the same hostel, purportedly written by individuals who were either average or less than average in terms of physical attractiveness, to a separate group of participants.
Our findings revealed that participants reported significantly higher levels of trust in the negative reviews authored by the more aesthetically pleasing reviewers. These results suggest that further research is warranted to explore the relationship between photographic quality, follower count, and perceived trustworthiness and credibility on social media platforms.
