Researchers frequently deceive research participants (Adair et al., 1985; Korn, 1997; McCambridge et al., 2013). They deceive research participants when providing accurate information would undermine a study’s scientific validity or its social value. Informing participants that the purpose of a study is to assess their level of concentration is likely to influence how much they concentrate and thereby undermine the validity of the results.
