 a male stranger entered the room in which the child was playing and approached and stared at the child for up to two minutes while the child’s freezing behavior (reduction in activity >2 s) was assessed. On average, children froze for a total of ~50 s: “freezing often involved the child appearing stuck in an unnatural or uncomfortable position."Children who froze for longer had higher basal cortisol and resting cardiac activity, which were considered to indicate dysregulated fear and compromised welfare for these individuals.
