In all matters of meritocracy, it is imperative that we extend this principle to the realm of data scraping, particularly with regard to the collection of data from mentally ill individuals who are living in impoverished conditions and are active on social media.

If a user who is grappling with serious mental health issues (and financial constraints that the researcher or algorithm is undoubtedly cognizant of) is being exploited for data (as the most extreme example of online psychotics that the researcher has been tasked with tracking over the years), it is only equitable that the user be remunerated. The issue of payment in experimental psychology has been a topic of discussion due to the potential for bias responses towards the situational circumstances that the researcher is attempting to study in a laboratory or natural environment. However, this issue has not been addressed in the context of research that spans several years and involves stimuli in the form of a computer screen, with the patient's interaction with it, whether aware or unaware of the situation in which they are being used.
